Chiara Sgaramella is an artist and researcher. She holds a PhD in Fine Arts from the Polytechninc University of Valencia. Her dissertation investigates the intersections between collaborative practices and contemporary art related to ecology. Considering art as a terrain for the hybridisation of different practices, languages and knowledge systems, her work revolves around some contemporary eco-social issues, such as land use, food sovereignty and climate justice. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Barcelona. She has been a visiting scholar at the Center for Creative Ecologies at the University of California, Santa Cruz (USA) and is the author of numerous publications on art and ecosocial crisis.

Alongside her academic activity, she develops artistic, educational and cultural projects related to socio-environmental issues using collaborative and transdisciplinary methods. Her work has been shown in international exhibitions and she has participated in artistic residencies linked to eco-political art such as Groundwork for Embedded Practices, UNIDEE, Pistoletto Foundation (Italy, 2021), New Curriculum on art and rural environment (Asturias, Spain, 2018), L’Extraordinari! Cultivem Barri, IVAM (Valencia, 2021-22), Resistències Artístiques. Producción Artística en entornos educativos and Cossos. Comunitats de sabers subalterns (Consorci de Museus de la Comunitat Valenciana, 2020-2021). She is part of the interdisciplinary research group Presentes Densos. Sobre las artes de vivir en un planeta herido (IVAM, Valencia) and of the Working group on the Hybrid Ecologies of the Llobregat Delta.
