Andrea Díaz Mattei holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) in “Art History, Theory and Criticism” from the University of Barcelona and Degrees in Psychology from the University of Buenos Aires and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Before starting her PhD, she was trained in Psychoanalysis (a profession she practiced for some years) and Art Direction for cinema and theater. She is currently preparing her doctoral thesis “Video installations (1990-2010). Critical history of contemporary visual perception” under the direction of professors Anna Maria Guasch (UB) and Marquard Smith (University of Westminster). Her research is focused on the study of the contemporary video installations from both a historical and theoretical perspective with an interdisciplinary approach inspired by the Visual Cultural Studies.

Díaz Mattei has published articles on art catalogs (“La Memoria del Otro en la Era de lo Global”, Bogotá and Santiago Chile) and has been speaker and moderator at various congresses, seminars and symposia on Arts and Visual Studies (Arts Santa Mònica, Universitat de Barcelona, MACBA, Association of Art and Psychoanalysis of Buenos Aires). For seven years she taught the course “Psychology and Sociology of Fashion” at Istituto Europeo di Design in Barcelona, in which she analyzed the history of fashion in connection with the artistic avant-gardes and thinking of the 20th century. As a researcher she has collaborated in recent years with the universities of Dortmund (Germany), Washington (USA) and Rosario (Argentina).
